Hashtag is a series of interactive sculptures that use critical humor to critique gender assignments. This project contains three separate but inter-related components. Each project is a jumping ball that text and language varies on them. Artist's intention is to critically investigate gender assignments in relation to sociopolitics of a space.
#mymommadethis speaks to the ability of women as makers of craft, home, babies, act. It grants women as people who behold knowledge. Craft which historically is known as "women's work" is presented as knowledge. This project was made by artist's mother who resides in Iran.
#mydadpaidforthis speaks to issues around power inequality. This project specifically critiques cultures such as Iranian culture that women make up %52 of university population, but only %10 of the work force are women. A direct relationship between power and masculinity and how wealth is a point of power that is based on gender.
#madeiniran is a politically loaded object/project that pushes against systematic racism. This object that was made in Iran, by a Muslim woman (Artist's mother), crossed the boarders of two conflicted countries (Iran and the US) and lives and occupies space in the US now. This object pushes against problematic ideas such as the "Muslim Ban" by being present as an evidence of a Muslim's work.
